I spent most of the day with the boys, including a trip to see The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with their cousin Miles. I've always loved the books, but was wary of the movie becuase of the reviews which said a) it wasn't funny, and b) it wasn't true to the spirit of the books. I have no idea what those people were talking about -- I thought it was as good an adaptation as one could hope for and enjoyed all the bits that were changed or added for the movie.

I was also a bit worried that it would go over the boys' heads, so I pulled out the book in the morning and read the beginning to them. Ellis had no problem with it, and Anson also understood most of it after some explanation. When he cracked up about the person at Point C not understanding why the people at Points A and B need a bypass through his house, I knew he could enjoy the movie. And when the movie began with the dolphins singing "So long, and thanks for all the fish," all four of us started laughing immediately.

Here's Ellis entranced in a video game before the movie, with Anson and Miles in the background. They love this theater because of this video game and the Taco Bell next door. Perhaps not the healthiest combination, but who can complain? I'd probably feel the same way if I was nine years old again.
