We're not very good at keeping the house straight. It's not a big house, and it's so full of clutter that I hope visitors arrive without bearing gifts. We're full! If you want to do something really nice for us, please take something with you when you leave instead.
These are the stairs leading up from the entry hall. Who knows what all this stuff is. Most of it is probably junk that's arrived with the mail over the last few weeks. Catalogs that Helen wants to look through. A hat and some toy detritus that one of the boys dropped. Miscellaneous paperwork that we can't let go of. An illustrated Bible for children. (I think I learned more about the Bible from reading this book than any other medium.)
It's a beautiful house, but we're burying it. I'd love to walk through the house with a trash bag and just throw most of this crap away.
